Dream Again

We start today’s teaching by taking our text from Proverbs 3:5-6, the passage says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” The keyword here is lean not on your own understanding, don’t even think of doing that.

This is that season of the year when we begin to evaluate how the year has been so far and make projections for what we expect to accomplish in the coming year. Whatever that is going to happen in your life in the coming year must first happen in your mind. When you start conceiving ideas for a new season, there are a couple of important keys to hold on to in that process, they include gratitude and imagination.

 

As we begin to dream and make those plans for 2019 the logical thing to do is to make plans for the next steps based on what you achieved the previous year, for instance you can say, if I earned 10,000 naira a month in 2018, it is only logical I aspire to earn 15,000 naira a month in 2019. But the bible says we should not depend on your own understanding. If you base your expectation for next year on what you achieved this year, you will be aspiring for too little. It may be difficult right now to see how that huge leap can happen in your life but one thing you should know is that you are full of endless possibilities.

 

For some, everything worked out well for you and now you just want to take things one step at a time, with conservative aspirations. Remember, do not depend on your won understanding. God wants to increase you in multiple folds. When it is time to dream, hit the reset button, start on a clean slate. Seek God to direct you, seek His will and He will show you which path to take. The Bible in Proverbs 14:12-14 “There is a way which seems right to a man and appears straight before him, But its end is the way of death.”

In James 1:17, the bible says “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” The devil does not make people wise or give good things, every good thing comes from God. In Jeremiah 29:11, the bible says “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” God definitely has a plan for your life. He knew you before He formed you.

In Romans 8:28 “And we know [with great confidence] that God [who is deeply concerned about us] causes all things to work together [as a plan] for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.”

God has a plan and purpose for my life. What God is going to reveal to you is the next level of His plan for you. Seek the face of God for clarity. You do not have the capacity to over dream, most likely you will dream too small or borrow dreams when you do not seek God’s face. At the end, when you get to the valley of the shadow of death, it is only the person that sent you that will stay with you. You need to develop the ability to hear God, this is very essential. Some keys to hold on to in that process of dreaming again is Gratitude.

 

Gratitude is the protocol to receive from God. In Psalm 100:4-5, the bible says “Enter His gates with a song of thanksgiving. And His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, bless and praise His name. For the Lord is good; ….”. God is the reason, why you went through what you went through and you are still alive. With gratitude, it is about the state of your heart. In Matthew 6:9, we are taught to begin our prayer with praise and gratitude. You have got to look at what you have currently and be thankful. You cannot be grateful and be negative at the same time. It is gratitude that makes us see what we have left. Look at 2018 so far and say thank you Jesus. When a promise of God is released over you, it takes gratitude to move God. My praise is an expression of my faith. If you are thoughtful, you will be thankful.

 

Another key is imagination. In Ephesians 3:20, the bible says “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us”. If you can think it, it is the least that God can do for you. Nothing is too much, nothing is too big for God to do. If it is not done it is not because it is impossible under God, it is because you have not been able to imagine it.  lot of people ask for things that are too big compared to what they are imagining in their head. Your imagination is louder than your voice. Your thinking is more important than you even prayer because if you cannot imagine it, it cannot be a reality. Meditate on the word of God till the scriptures become life to you. After gratitude, the next thing to do is to sit on the word of God. Your next level will be according to the revelation of God not the calculation of men.

 

Make it a habit of just imagining big things, the state of your heart has to be ready to receive revelations from God. You need to put your heart in a state that when the revelation comes, it stays. Your heart needs to be in a condition of faith. God will define the what, you will define the process. You will determine how far it will go. As gratitude requires initiative, imagination also requires initiative. Your initiative is a function of what you do with what God says. A lot of times we dream and aspire for too low compared to what God is able to do.

This is not the time to be sharing what God has revealed to you because there will be doubters who cannot wrap their heads around what God will do for you. Nobody can encourage you in a direction that they have not travelled. There are certain dimensions of your life that not too many people should be exposed to. Seek God as you dream again, trust in His plans for your life and lean not on your own understanding as you dream again. Shalom!
